Being fair.
Signal is the benchmark
Signal is open source and its protocol has been formally analysed by independent researchers. If you need a battle-tested private messenger today, it's an excellent choice.
Cyphry is new
Cyphry is built by a solo developer. The web app is live and the Linux app is in alpha. It has not been independently audited and is not open source.
Where Cyphry fits
Discord-style communities with end-to-end encryption, no IP addresses stored, and an account that's just a username + UUIDv6 — plus Lock mode, which flags unusual account behavior.
